HLABC hosts “getting hired in health libraries” event

HLABC panel

The Health Libraries Association of British Columbia’s recent information session for iSchool students was a great success! The October 9 event had a good turn-out of iSchool students, including a large contingent from LIBR 534: Health Information Sources and Services. Panelists included both recent graduates and long-time information professionals working in health librarianship and information services:

  • Vanessa Kitchin – MD Undergraduate Librarian, Woodward Library, UBC
  • Chantalle Jack – Librarian, Vancouver Coastal Health
  • Terri McKellar – Knowledge Services Manager, Physiotherapy Association of BC

The panelists shared their pathways to their current jobs, courses they have found most helpful in their day, and the skills employers are looking for.

Following the panel discussion, students had an opportunity to mingle and ask questions. Students who are interested in learning more about health information careers are encouraged to join the HLABC professional association. Student memberships are free for the first year.

Thank you, HLABC for hosting a fun an informative event!
