UBC iSchool FAQs

 

Is the UBC iSchool open? (updated as of March 23 at 4:00 pm)
No, UBC iSchool is now closed. Staff, faculty and students are asked to work remotely. Students who need to pick up essential items can access the space using their key cards until midday on Wednesday March 25, but student key cards will not work after that time.

 

How can I contact iSchool staff and faculty?
If you need to talk with a faculty or staff member, please contact them via email. Visit the staff and faculty pages to find their contact information.

 

Is the UBC Library open? (updated as of March 25 at 3:00 pm)
UBC Library branches across the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses are closed until April 6, at which time the situation will be reassessed. The library continues to provide access to electronic resources and librarian support for research, teaching and learning. Online library services will continue to be available. Is UBC proceeding with summer sessions? (updated as March 25 at 3:00 pm)
Term 1 of Summer Session (running May 11 – June 18) at UBC Vancouver Campus will be online. Planning is also underway for the possibility that Term 2 of Summer Session (July 6 – Aug. 13) may need to go online. We will update the community when and if there are changes.

 

What is the situation for students who have US loans? (updated as March 25 at 3:00 pm)
As Summer courses move online, students who have US loans may be concerned about how these online courses would affect their eligibility for the loans. Please note that UBC Enrolment Services is aware of the situation, and is waiting for a decision from Congress regarding potential amendments to the eligibility criteria, in light of the pandemic. We will update you as soon as we have more information.

 

How can I stay connected with other iSchool students?
The iSchool Peer Advisors will be holding an online weekly session on Zoom on Fridays, between 1:00 – 2:00 pm. This session is open to all iSchool students to connect, hang out, touch base, and ask each other questions. Feel free to drop in to the session anytime between 1 – 2 pm, using this link.

 

During the COVID-19 outbreak, we will send out the iSchool Digest weekly as a means of sharing information. If you have suggestions for information to include or resources that you would like to share with the School, please send an email to ischool.comms@ubc.ca
